Calcium Carbonate should not be used in patients with hypercalcaemia, hypercalciuria, renal calculi, or severe renal dysfunction. Unlike Calcium Citrate, it requires adequate gastric acid for proper absorption; therefore, patients with achlorhydria or those taking proton pump inhibitors should consult their physician before use. Concurrent use of thiazide diuretics may predispose patients to hypercalcaemia. Calcium may interfere with the absorption of bisphosphonates, fluoroquinolone antibiotics, and levothyroxine — maintain a minimum 2-hour gap between these medications. Excessive supplementation beyond the recommended daily allowance should be strictly avoided as chronic high-dose calcium intake has been associated with cardiovascular risk and nephrolithiasis. Vitamin D toxicity, though rare, can cause anorexia, weakness, and polyuria at very high cumulative doses. Always perform periodic monitoring of serum calcium, phosphorus, and renal function in patients on long-term supplementation. Store at room temperature, below 30°C, away from moisture.
